The “Ethnic Power Relations and Conflict in Fragile States” project was conducted by a team of scholars from ETH Zurich and the University of Geneva. It received funding from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) and the Swiss Development Agency. The primary focus of the project was to explore the connection between ethnic conflict in fragile states and horizontal inequalities. Horizontal inequalities refer to group-level disparities in various domains, including social, economic, cultural, and political spheres.
As a doctoral research assistant involved in this project, I made significant contributions to its objectives. One of my key responsibilities was to participate in the development and collection of data for the EPR-Organizations Data Project. This initiative aimed to construct a comprehensive database on politically relevant ethnically based political organizations across all countries of the world.
Additionally, I played a role in collecting supplementary data related to the normative ideological dimension of the ethnopolitical organizations in the EPRO dataset. This data was later utilized for the analysis conducted in my own PhD dissertation.
It is worth noting that the project was supported by the Swiss Programme for Research on Global Issues for Development (r4d programme), which is a collaborative funding initiative by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). The r4d programme specifically focuses on supporting research projects that address global challenges, with an emphasis on least developed, low, and middle-income countries.
